Description

The sloping writing surface above paneled front and sides, the back with a cupboard door enclosing a shelf, deep patination.
Despite some light overall wear and scratches commensurate with age, especially on the more rubbed front panels, this scribal desk is in excellent condition. Only the (removable) middle bar on the sloping top and the lock are probably later. There are rather few of these remarkably practical pieces of furniture remaining and this example is free from the excessive ornament (linen fold panels and other carving) of most of them, expressing both purity and a rich mellow colour.
