Coronation of the Virgin
DescriptionThe coronation of Mary CommentaryA fine example of the crowning of Mary as Queen of Heaven. Two things differentiate this from the more usual rendition of this last scene in the life of the Virgin. The Holy Spirit is depicted as dove rather than a third figure of the Trinity and there is a kneeling figure of a donor/supplicant, somebody who represents us, the viewer, and also confirms Mary in her new role as intermediary between ordinary penitents and the Father.
