Oxenwood is a hamlet nestled below the Roman Chute Causeway at the centre of the North Wessex Downs AONB, which straddles west Berkshire and east Wiltshire, the market towns of Newbury and Marlborough. It is an easy day or half-day trip from London, but for those wishing to explore the area there are many B&Bs and a number of things to see as well as a number of starred restaurants. |
How to get hereBy TrainHourly services from London Paddington to Great Bedwyn (or Hungerford). Great Bedwyn is 10 minutes from Oxenwood by car and pick up and drop off can be arranged on request. Alternatively, hourly trains from London Waterloo to Andover which is 25 mins by car from Oxenwood. Taxi:1st Direct Hungerford: 07590 722 953 |
By CarFrom London M4 West, exit at junction 14 (Hungerford); through Hungerford village onto A338 towards Salisbury; after a few miles either take left into Shalbourne and at pub in village left again following signs to Oxenwood. Alternatively, continue further along A338 till signposted exit left towards Fosbury/Oxenwood. Beacon Farm is at the end of a cul de sac and is signposted from one of the three small village greens. Though this track has tarmac, drivers should be aware of potholes. |
